Voodoo, the national religious folk cult of Haiti. Voodoo is a mixture of Roman Catholic ritual elements, which date from the period of French colonization, and African theological and magical elements, which were brought to Haiti by slaves formerly belonging to the Yoruba, Fon, Kongo, and other peoples of Africa.

A loa who governs spring water. She has protuberant eyes and a really bad temper.

The elephant loa on Haiti.

The loa that mounts the drums by a process known as àdya.

Agassou

The guardian loa of the Dahomean traditions.

Agwe

The Haitian god of fish and sea plants, the patron of fishermen and sailors. During elaborate ceremonies, the worshippers of this proud god send expensive offerings to his magnificent underwater palace.

Asagwe

A type of Haitian voodoo dancing, known as a salute to the gods. The manman, the largest of the three voodoo drums, signals for this figure to start and sets the distinctive rhythm to which it is performed. The dance figures itself is characterized by sweeping circular movements, dips, and semi-prostrations.

Avalou

One of the voodoo dances, characterized by violent arm- and shoulder-muscle movements. Literally, "supplication".

Ayida-Weddo

In Benin and Haiti she is the snake companion to Damballah-Wedo, the most popular god, who is also in snake form. This goddess of Haiti is known as the Rainbow Snake, a common manifestation of a deity in Africa, Oceania and Central and South America. Her husband is Damballa, god of rivers and springs. Anthropologists consider her the equivalent of the African Mawu. She played an important part in the creation of the world.

Ayizan

The Haitian patroness of the marketplace.

Azaka-Tonnerre

The Haitian god of thunder, and patron of agriculture and farmers.

An evil spirit in Haitian voodoo. He is represented by a skull and crossed bones.

Badessy

A minor sky god in Haitian voodoo.

Baron Samedi

Baron Samedi is one of the Guédés, related to and intertwined with Baron Cemetière and Baron La Croix. He is a Guédé of the Americas, bridging the Guédés and Legba. Both are guardians of the crossroads, the place where spirits cross over into our world. If the intercessions desired are with the loa, then Legba is saluted and asked to allow the loa to participate. If the intercessions are with the dead, then Guédé (Ghede) is the intercessor.
Baron Samedi is usually seen wearing top hat, black coat tails, sunglasses, and smoking a cigar.

Clermeil

A Haitian spirit which makes the rivers overflow. He is usually depicted in the form of a white man.

Coco macaque

A magic stick in Haitian voodoo that walks by itself. The owner can send it on errands, especially punitive errands. If he hits an enemy with it, the person hit will die before morning.

Conga

A category of Haitian voodoo deities, associated with the rada group in the organization of the voodoo pantheon.

Congo

A lethargic and dull-witted, but rather handsome spirit from Haitian voodoo.

Damballa

The most important god of voodoo-religion in the Caribbean. He is a snake-god and lives in the trees near springs. He is also a fertility god and the father of all the loa (voodoo divinities). On Haiti he is called Bon Dieu ("good god") and his wife is the rainbow goddess Ayida Weddo. His holy color is white.

Dan Petro

The Haitian loa of farmers. He originated from the African god Danh.

Dan Wédo

The Haitian loa of the king of France.

Diable Tonnere

A powerful Haitian thunder spirit, one of the loa.

Diejuste

A benevolent loa from Haitian voodoo.

Dinclinsin

In Haitian religion, a loa of European origin. He is feared for his great severity.

E

Erzulie

The Voodoo love goddess and goddess of elemental forces, as well as of beauty, dancing, flowers, jewels, and pretty clothes. She lives in fabulous luxury and appears powdered and perfumed. She is as lavish with her love as with her gifts. On her fingers she wears three wedding rings, her three husbands being Damballa, the serpent god, Agwe, god of the sea and Ogoun the warrior hero. As Erzulie Ge-Rouge, she huddles together with her knees drawn up and her fists clenched, tears streaming from her eyes as she laments the shortness of life and the limitation of love. She is personified as a water snake. She is also called Ezili.

An inferior shaman unable to became a hungan.

Ghede

Ghede is the god of the dead in voodoo, but it is also the name of the group of deities who belong to his retinue. He is a very wise man for his knowledge is an accumulation of the knowledge of all the deceased. He stands on the center of all the roads that lead to Guinee, the afterworld.
Ghede is represented as an undertaker, dressed completely in black wearing dark glasses. His followers disguise themselves as corpses and they dance the Banda. Other members of his retinue are Baron la Croix and Baron Cemetière. His feminine counterpart is Maman Brigitte.

The original creator deity in Haitian religion.

Guinee

In voodoo-religion, Guinee is the legendary place of origin and abode of the gods. It is here that the souls of the deceased go after their death. On their way to Guinee, they first have to pass the eternal crossroads, which is guarded by Ghede.

H

Hungan

The Haitian term for priest or spirit master of the voodoo cult, derived from the Fon of Dahomey. The rituals of voodoo are often led by a hungan. During these rituals the worshippers invoke the loa by drumming, singing, dancing, and feasting, and the loa take possession of the dancers. Each dancer then behaves in a manner characteristic of the possessing spirit and while in an ecstatic trance performs cures and gives advice. Its literal meaning is deity-chief, hun in Fon being a synonym for (vodun) deity, and ga signifying chief.

Kalfu

The Voodoo spirit of the night and the source of darkness. He is very dangerous. The moon is his symbol.

Lemba

A deity, of Congo religion, worshipped in the African cults of Haiti and Brazil.

Limba

One of the Haitian loa, believed to live among the rocks. He has an insatiable appetite and persecutes and kills people, and eats them. Even his own devotees are not safe from his hunger.

L'inglesou

A Haitian loa who lives among rocks and ravines. He is said to kill those who offend him.

Loa

In the voodoo-religion of the Caribbean, the loa are a group of divinities who are concerned with the lives of humans and who often personify forces of nature. Their origin lies in West-African traditions, and their leader is Damballa. Some loa protect certain places or areas, such as cemeteries, crossroads, the sea, etc., while other loa are ancestral deities. The loa cult is lead by a priest (hungan) or priestess (mambo) and the divinities are invoked by vévé (magical pentagrams) and by singing and dancing. During these rituals, the names of the loa are often mixed with those of Christian saints (with which they show many similarities). The loa are represented by vévé drawn on the ground.

Loco

A tree god, and patron of plants and healers. He is one of the loa in the Caribbean voodoo-religion.

Lutin

The ghost of an un-baptized child in Haitian voodoo.

Mademoiselle Charlotte

A Haitian loa (of Caucasian or European appearance) who manifests with the personality traits of a white woman.

Mait' Carrefour

The Haitian 'lord of crossroads'. He is the god of magicians.

Maîtresse Délai

A Haitian loa who walks with the tambourine player (the hountor).

Maîtresse Hounon'gon

A Haitian loa that personifies the "place of sound", the chanting of the canzo (an ordeal by fire).

Maman Brigitte

The Haitian voodoo goddess who protects the graves in cemeteries that are marked with the cross. Her masculine counterpart is Ghede (Baron Samedi).

Mambo

A priestess who, together with a hungan, leads the rituals in voodoo, such as the invoking of the loa.

Marassa

The Haitian twin gods of voodoo.

Marassa Jumeaux

The ghosts of dead twins in Haitian voodoo.

Marinette

A Haitian loa, powerful and violent.

Marré

"To tie." It is a term used in Haiti to denote the proper control of a supernatural being (loi) of the Vodoun cult by a devotee.

Mombu

Mombu is a stammering loa who causes storms of torrential rain.

Mounanchou

A minor Haitian god.

Nago Shango

Nago Shango is one of the more powerful loa.

O

Ogoun

The Haitian voodoo god of war, fire, politics, iron, and thunderbolts. He is the patron god of smiths' fire. The machete or sable is his attribute. Ogoun is especially fond of rum and tobacco.

P

Papa Legba

The Haitian voodoo god who acts as an intermediary between the loa and humans. He is also the god of the crossroads; he opens the road to the spirit world. He taught mankind the use of oracles and how to interpret them.
Papa Legba is commonly depicted as an old man sprinkling water or an old man with a crutch, and is also known as Legba or Legba Ati-Bon. In any vodoun ceremony, Legba is the first loa invoked, so that he may "open the gate" for communication between the worlds. The dog is his symbolic animal.

Petro

The Petro are a group of spirits, which are easily annoyed. They are symbolized by a whip.

Pie

A loa, which is held responsible for making floods. Pie, a grave soldier, lies at the bottom of ponds and rivers.

Simbi

Simbi is one of the three cosmic serpents of Haitian voodoo-religion, the water-snake loa.

Sobo

A voodoo spirit, particularly of thunder, one of the loa. Sobo looks like a handsome soldier.

Sousson-Pannan

Sousson-Pannan is an evil and very ugly loa whose body is all covered with sores. He is known to drink liquor and blood.

Ti Jean Quinto

In Haitian religion, Ti Jean Quinto is an insolent spirit who lives under bridges. He usually assumes the form of a policeman.

Ti Malice

The trickster in the folklore of the Negroes of Haiti (as well as of other parts of the Creole-speaking New World -Martinique, Guadeloupe, Lesser Antilles). In Haiti, and elsewhere, his foil is the lumbering Uncle Bouki.

A Haitian snake deity, the son of Dan Petro.

Voodoo

Voodoo, a group of superstitious beliefs and practices including sorcery, serpent worship and sacrificial rites amongst the Western Indians and blacks. Voodoo, or Vaudoux, is said to be derived from a Dahomey word vodu meaning "gods", as a modification of African beliefs. The practice of voodoo is the national religion in Haiti, and also in the United States legitimate voodoo worship is permitted 1. It is basically a form of form of spiritualism in which gods are invoked to take possession of the priests, protect the worshippers, and perform feats of divination and magic. As with African tribal religions from which voodoo stems, illness and misfortune are considered involving hostility of neighbors or spirits, and it is the task of priest to discover the source of the hostility then to neutralize it.
Some states and communities have attempted to ban voodoo by prosecuting under animal-cruelty or anti-fortune telling statutes. However, the right to practice voodoo as a religion is guaranteed by the Constitution, and the ACLU and other religious-freedom groups have fought these prosecutions and won.

Z

Zombie

In the voodoo-cult of the Caribbean, a zombie is a soulless body that serves a sorcerer as a slave. The soul could have left the body through the regular death rituals, but could also have been removed from a living body by the power of the sorcerer. As lord of the dead, Ghede can restore a zombie to life by returning the soul.

Тъй, няколко думи за тези, дето не са чели "Донърджак" все пак :)

Сцената е предпоследното творение на самия Донърджак - преди да го гътне Господарката на ентропията :) Смята се (като легенда), че може да даде достъп в плът до Вирту, както се случва в някои определени точки, макар че това е наистина трудно - успял е единствено сина на Донърджак, и това като че повече се дължи на вирту-алната му кръв и на Пиринчения павиан, а не на самата Сцена. Но никой не знае наистина, просто от тогава насам не е ползвана.

Гривната пък е последното творение на Донърджак - съдържа всичките му спомени. Вече игрово - наследниците му смятат, и то вероятно с право, че след дългите години от съществуването си тя отново е развила някакъв вид динамичен разум. Все пак във Вирту - място бол :)

Имплантите се използват само от властите и нелегалните организации поради високата си цена, но често заможни младежи си плащат за някой подобрения или по здравословни причини. В първия случай след сключване на договор, като имплантите са повече за сигурността на служителя отколкото за нещо друго. Въпреки това има такива който се борят срещу този метод за "контрол"(винаги има опозиция за новостите). Във втория случай - си е точно за контрол над по-низшестоящите и за по-лесно справяне с нелегални дейности(виждане в тъмното примерно).


Петрола е изчерпан до степен да не се ползва масово за гориво. Използва си се за всичко останало.

Превозът е базиран на електро магнетизъм... един вид летящи автомобили които се плъзгат по магнитното поле на земята(или друга планета с магнитно поле - демек само вътрешните планети с тежко ядро).
Повсеместно се ползват ВЕЦ, станции за термоядрен синтез, геотермални и вятърни станции за общите нужди, а част от персоналните - возила, част от домашното потребление и пр, са на слънчеви панели. Разработен е метод за пряко получаване на енергия от ядрен синтез... т.е. без изпаряване на вода. Това позволява стократно смаляване на реактора - всички превозни средства и пр се захранват от такива "батерии". Забранена е употребата на технологията за военни цели, но това не означава че богати престъпни групировки не се опитват да създадат енергийни оръжия базирани на "батериите"

Оръжията са познатите ни балистични - експлозив, дуло, куршум, в които обикновено се вкарва и някакъв метод за разпознаване на ползващия ги. Освен тях има споменатото от мен вибро оръжие... иии аз предлагам да ги има и добре познатите ни плазмени пушкала(частици ускорени и поддържани компактни от оръжието до сблъсъка), но примерно в силно засекретен/експериментален стадии на развитие.

Нормално е ООН-то и/или някоя друга организация да е забранила част от модерните оръжия - също както папата забранил употребата на арбалети срещу християни. И те да са много нелегални и много преследвани(и много скъпи разбира се).
Tакива са вибро-оръжието, тежките лазерно-пулсови установки и някой други.

Силовото поле.... мечтата на десетки поколения е изобретено от обединените усилия на стотици световни учени и няколко частни лаборатории по физика. Единствения проблем е че генератора на поле с размери 10х10м заема няколко декара и изисква колосални количества енергия. За космическите кораби насочени към дълбокия космос и изобщо далечни/опасни мисии се пригажда смален генератор който се включва за част от секундата при опасност и дори тогава капитаните предпочитат да трябва да шият пробойна отколкото да се разделят с 1/3 от енергията на кораба.

Хм, може би не трябваше всичко да трия...

Не съм съгласен с така поставените условия за импланти - те винаги са били широко достъпни, просто по-нестандартните се изработват по поръчка и по тази причина са много скъпи. Но в никакъв случай не са нелегални. Изкуствените ченета също са вид протези - и те ли ще са нелегални?

Пише че човек рядко сам си слага.... обикновено е по желание на фирмата в коят бачка... и обикновено сключва договор че е съгласен и че няма да съди компанията за "контрол" над личния живот.....

А другата употреба на имплантите е в подземния свят - да си контролираш копелетата..... никъде не е казано че са нелегални, това са двете им употреби....

Мня... аз лично не разбирам как някой ще те НАКАРА да си сложиш имплант, ама нейсе. Прав си, не пише, но пише, че основно се използват от правителството и нелегалните организации. Е те с това не съм съгласен.
Импланти се използват навсякъде. Когато си зле с очите - слагаш имплант (очен). Когато искаш да станеш леководолаз - пак слагаш имплант (леща на очите, покривна мембрана на лицето и т.н.). Когато работиш в силно запрашена среда, отново отиваш да ти сложат няколко импланта (за защита на очите, белите дробове и т.н.). Ако искаш да станеш алпинист - присаждат ти пикели-котешки нокти (трябва да внимаваш с ръкавиците, обаче).
В тоя смисъл ти казвам, че поръчковите импланти струват майка си и баща си, а не, че с всички е така.
